On April 10, 2006, Public Citizen and a coalition of consumer advocates filed a notice of protest and intervention before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) opposing the proposed merger between Constellation Energy and Florida Power and Light (FP&L). The groups stated the merger would lead to higher energy prices in the state, negatively impacting local communities.
