Prescription Drug Prices

  • 34 drugs (out of 9,482 on the market) accounted for 50.7% of the overall increase in national drug spending in 2001.

  • Prescription prices rose at more than six times the rate of inflation in 2001. The average price per prescription increased 10% from 2000 to 2001, while the inflation rate was only 1.6% in 2001.
