Energy Company Mergers

With the repeal of the Public Utility Holding Company Act (PUCHA), a wave of mergers is occuring. Consumers are threatened by this new trend, as the larger companies will span multiple states, undermining the ability of local officials to protect consumers. And with PUHCA's consumer protections repealed, these sprawling energy companies will have less transparent corporate structures, particulary as oil companies, investment banks and hedge funds move to acquire electric utilities.
