White House Interventions in Regulatory Policy

Although Congress delegates responsibility for protecting the public directly to the agencies themselves, thereby diffusing power throughout the executive branch, the White House has repeatedly seized power over regulatory policy.  With much of that power vested in the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in the Office of Management and Budget, the White House has set itself up as a one-stop shop for corporate interests seeking to undermine regulatory safeguards.
