Drinking and Driving

Government data show that around 20 percent of drivers who get into fatal crashes were intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.80 or higher and nearly 18,000 people were killed, last year alone, in alcohol-related crashes. Van occupants are the least likely (33 percent of all occupant fatalities) to be killed in alcohol-related crashes, followed by passenger car (40 percent), SUV (41 percent) and pickup (50 percent) occupants.

Because Public Citizen does not accept funds from corporations, professional associations or government agencies, we can remain independent and follow the truth wherever it may lead. But that means we depend on the generosity of concerned citizens like you for the resources to fight on behalf of the public interest. If you would like to help us in our fight, click here.
